We Made It!
We arrived Madison airport 11:30 am, eager to start our adventures.
Something unusual happened. Both our flights left on time. We had sufficient room under the seats in front of us for our backpacks. We had plenty of leg room! In the seven hour long flight, they served us two meals. There are rumors going around that we even got a little sleep on that flight. Nothing went wrong during the whole journey. When we landed in Edinburgh, there were reporters there wanting to interview us about this unheard of trip across the ocean.
After we dropped our suitcases at the hotel, we went out to explore the city. If you know us at all, you won’t be surprised at our first stop.
I seem to be constitutionally incapable of entering a bookstore without doing my bit for the local economy. I bought one book about the BBC during World War II and another about Victorian and Edwardian Railway travel. When I’ve finished reading them, they are available for loan, but speak up quickly, It’s first come first served.
We did see some more usual tourist sites too, of course.
We did a lot more walking than we did photo taking. We dropped our bags at the hotel at 9:30 this morning and they told us the room would not be ready till three. So in spite of traveling all night we just had to go into the city and walk all day. I can’t swear that we walked on every street in old Edinburgh, but I can’t swear that we didn’t either.
Eventually, we went to Clarinda’s Tea Room for a cream tea.. We took the kids there when we were here 22 years ago!
We finally got into a room about an hour ago and despite total exhaustion/collapse I think we’re going to go off in search of a yarn store before dinner. After that, we will probably sleep for the next 12 hours.

Actually, now I see your photos and post, I see you got off to a VERY good start! It looks as if you’re having a wonderful time so far, sleep or no sleep.
